Obama signs spending bill, issues signing statements

President Obama signed the $410 billion spending bill.  Obama seeks transparency from legislators on earmarks by calling on them to make potential earmarks public, via their websites.

Additionally, the President issued several signing statements, and ordered a review of Bush’s signing statements.

Obama administration launches housing plan

President Obama has unleashed a program to help “financially viable” homeowners refinance their existing mortgages.  Additionally, homeowners with mortgages controlled by Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac will be eligable to refinance through June, 2010.

Obama’s budget shows true costs

Obama’s new budget includes costs for the wars and the AMT (Alternative Minimum Tax) costs, which continue as ongoing costs, but have not been included in Bush administration budgets.

Republicans are balking at the size of the budget, but do not seem to be aware that these costs are not new.
